Every face has some asymmetry, such as one eye being larger than the other, one brow being raised, one side of the mouth being thinner, etc.
There’s no doubt that we try to achieve as much symmetry and balance as we can while pre-drawing the form of the lips. In order to achieve the greatest degree of balance, a slight asymmetry can be corrected by adding a tiny bit to one side and/or subtracting a tiny bit from the other.
The natural lip border, however, must always be respected! We cannot tattoo outside lip tissue because that skin is different from the skin on lips in that it contains pores and hair. In addition, tattooing here would make your lips hairy and porous, and the color of your facial skin will appear different from the color of your lips.
Let’s talk about enlarging the lips. Lip tissue frequently has a very light border at the vermilion line. In this instance, coloring in this pale portion will start to give the lips a plumper, fuller appearance. We cannot, however, venture over the natural lip border, just as we cannot do so with asymmetry.
Unfortunately, there are still some “artists” out there that tattoo outside the natural lip border, so if anyone claims to be able to permanently enlarge your lips, get away immediately!
In conclusion, very small asymmetry may typically be fixed with permanent cosmetics, and if your natural lip border is light in color, permanent lipstick may make your lips appear fuller by coloring the light areas. However, if you want to achieve more dramatic lip augmentation effects or fix a more glaring asymmetry, you should seek the assistance and advice of an aesthetician who uses lip fillers.
