You are misguided if you believe that going to the gym will help you get in shape. The gym is not a must for better health and a fit body, even though it can be a great environment and motivating tool for getting in shape. It is not surprising that depression is on the rise given how the Big Bug’s lockdowns have affected people’s daily routines at work, home, and in their leisure activities. Health and community are intertwined because people tend to be less physically active when they are alone. It almost seems as though the Big Bug lockdowns were created specifically to make individuals weaker on the inside. Your daily movements are greatly influenced by your mental state, and your mental state can be controlled by your physical actions. Most people are aware that solitary confinement is detrimental to both mental and physical health.
Your state of mind greatly influences how you feel physically. Your outlook on the world is probably going to be more pessimistic if you spend the entire day sitting down and engaging in little to no physical activity. However, your body will react favorably if you get out from behind that computer screen and perform a few pushups and squats. Feel better after working out and getting your blood flowing. Exercise improves both your physical and mental states, which can lead to a more optimistic attitude on life. Exercise might be compared to starting a car on a chilly morning. Starting the engine warms the car’s fluids, enabling it to function better than it would otherwise. Once warmed by the combined friction of the parts of the car’s motor, fluids in the engine begin to circulate more freely.
How long does it take you to start working out? less time than you may anticipate. A lot of individuals avoid working out at home because Getting Started is a constant obstacle. Give that sentence some thought. Sometimes the question of where to start prevents you from working out, not just procrastination in and of itself. You know you need to work out and that once you do, you’ll start to feel much better, but that awful first step. Starting a workout can actually be simpler than you think. And what’s this? Even motivation is not required. When your activity or physical movement is independent of whether you desire to workout or not, motivation never triumphs over habit.
You’re probably wondering, “What the heck?” Isn’t being motivated the key to working out? While genuine motivation helps, it is not a need for starting a workout routine. Recall how I emphasized mindset earlier in relation to how you go about your day? There are techniques for tricking the mind into engaging in exercise as well as physical activity. weird, huh? Follow me, and I’ll show you how this works. Without the “Getting Started” obstacle, tricking your mind into working out is actually very easy. No matter how busy or lethargic you feel, tell yourself you’re going to get in a nice workout during the day. It doesn’t matter if you really want to exercise or not. Just keep repeating it till it becomes automatic…
Okay, now for the trick.
Simply transform each action into a mini activity. EVERYTHING! Movement is the essence of exercise. Repetitive actions come to mind when you wish to think about exercise in more depth. Since home workouts are what we’re discussing here, you can turn everything you do around the house into a repetitive movement. For instance, when you leave your computer after a long Skype or Zoom meeting. Do a few squats before making that morning cup of coffee. Do one or two pushups just before you get in the shower. Drink a lot of water, and when you need to use the restroom, lift your knees as you walk. At first, you might find this approach to fitness absolutely bizarre. But as time goes on, you’ll complete hundreds, then thousands, of repeats.
I engage in a variety of activities throughout my typical day at home in the unused time spent going from one location to another. There are so many brief intervals of time that are simply waiting for us to use for a few repetitions of an exercise. A minute here while waiting for the microwave to cook up the meal, a few seconds there while the shower is heating up, and a few repetitions there while texting. Since you’re used to texting while driving, why not text while working out? It poses far less risk. Hell, the time it takes to download something from the internet has at least 10 minutes crammed into it. Most individuals waste a lot of time waiting, yet that time may be used to move. The beautiful thing is that these brief periods of time don’t cost anything, and since you are constantly starting, you never have to worry about “getting started.” Moving was all we did in the distant past since it was essential to our survival. Now we lock down our eagerness for regular, natural physical exercise and find any justification not to move.
