The Mental Health Journey

This is the first time I’ve discussed my struggle with mental illness. I do, however, hope that my post may be helpful to anyone else who may be feeling isolated or similarly misunderstood.

First off, mental health in this context can be understood as a journey or pathway to recovery from a mental illness or managing mental health disorders through time by developing healthy coping skills.

Now that we know a little bit more, let’s look at some common diseases including schizophrenia, PTSD, bipolar disorder, insomnia, and anxiety.

Returning to my story, I was in the ideal situation to go about my everyday business of attempting to do what was best for my people. How did you get there? is a reasonable question. This is brought on by prior trauma, pressure from the present, such as figuring out how to acquire a job, low business turnover, worry, etc.

Being the firstborn in our family, I’ve had the tendency to take on a lot of responsibility for others around me for a very long time. I used to worry a lot about how I could get the next paycheck, job, or client when I started experiencing anxiety due to the daily stresses of life.

Although worrying about how and what to do is normal, there is a limit to how much of this should be, I was off, now overcome with anxiety. My heart would race while I slept at night, and when I would awaken, I would be terrified of some undefined future action. One is prone to falling away into alternative control techniques, thus this periodically occurring situation was concerning at this point. The best course of action is to try meditation or therapy to stop having such ideas, which are typically uncertain about any future events.

The hardest conflict someone may experience is within themselves. I’ve always struggled with myself and worried a lot about providing the best possible life for my family. I lose sight of myself.

When things were really tight financially, healing became more difficult.

Here’s an explanation of what’s going on right now!

Unusually, one never stops fighting with oneself. Worst of all, past traumatic events may cause conduct that deviates from the norm due to intense uncertainty and questioning while attempting to find a solution to every conflict.

You are continuously lost in your own thoughts, cut off from everyday life in society or just the real world. I can now comprehend when I see someone going down the street in a way that would make us think they are insane. This is a serious issue, and many individuals are currently attempting to cover it up with various tactics when, in fact, a more long-term solution is required.

Once insomnia sets in, I have to adjust my schedule or, worse, cut short my resting time because all of these things happen at night. Just keep in mind that men tend to be more reticent about issues that concern them than women are. I have to be a strong father for my family. Knowing everyone’s mental and emotional state will also help you provide the best care possible. However, I am currently falling silently.

Quick Forward

When you choose to work on yourself from the inside rather than relying on any external support system, that is when the healing process reaches its peak.

Let me be clear, though, that this phase is a very uncomfortable one and the sense of being alone is always destructive. Here, you’ll experience feelings of betrayal and abandonment, as well as a general sense that individuals who should understand you are miles away. All of these emotional obstacles are there to lengthen your healing process, and you will know you are on the correct path when you can go inside of yourself and employ the idea of improving yourself for those around you.

This is true of relationships as well; sometimes it takes a really trying time to bring out the best in both of you, leading to a closer bond.

As the healing process never ends, I am still going through it.

A shift in perspective encourages better engagements and behaviors. One learns to approach the world with extreme caution and skepticism yet never losing sight of the good in every circumstance.

To be a healthy self, heal yourself.

Always see this voyage as a season; no one is ever alone themselves on it.

Whatever perspective you want, try not to allow your obstacles bring you down.

Finally, I’ll provide an analogy from the animal world. There are seasons of rain and seasons of drought. During a drought, animals struggle, for example, elephants would travel hundreds of miles to find water in their matriarchal memory. Conversely, when there is a lot of rainfall, there is an abundance of grass, and in this environment, zebras and other grazers have a fantastic time—or more specifically, a difficult time—as more and more of them continue to be pursued by predators.
